Koldo Echebarria is a distinguished professional in the field of law and international development, with a rich career dedicated to fostering social impact and facilitating institutional improvements worldwide. With a PhD in Law and a diploma in European Studies from the esteemed University of Deusto, Koldo has leveraged his educational background and expertise in roles at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), one of Latin America’s leading economic institutions.
Koldo held several key positions at the IADB, where he played a crucial role in shaping development policies and programs. From 2007 to 2013, he served as General Manager and Head of Development Effectiveness. In this capacity, he was instrumental in driving initiatives that ensured the effective use of resources for the banking operations across the region. His leadership extended beyond administrative functions; he was heavily involved in strategic planning, underscoring his commitment to sustainable development and social equity.
Earlier in his tenure at IADB, Koldo served as the Country Representative in Chile from 2005 to 2007 and then again after his stint in the management role from 2013 to 2016. His ability to navigate complex socio-political landscapes and work collaboratively with various stakeholders made him a key figure in the Southern Cone’s development agenda, contributing significantly to fostering socio-economic development in Chile. Furthermore, Koldo took on the critical role of Country Representative in Haiti, where he led IADB-financed reconstruction programs following the devastating earthquake in 2010.
