This session of the Scaling CoP Annual Workshop focuses on sustainable development goals how it is impacted by scaling practices. This session is moderated by Dr. Julie Howard with five other panelists who joined the conversation to give their input and develop a conversation around scaling, agriculture, and food systems. Panelists discussed their views and experiences:

 

  • Eric Gatera, through his experience in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources for Rwanda, discussed the lessons he’s learned in his career and how those takeaways are useful for other countries in similar environments. 
  • Dr. Stella Mukokha, with the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, led efforts to improve coordination across initiatives including scaling climate change, prediction. adaptation, and mitigation. She discussed the main challenges and opportunities going forwards from her perspective in Kenya.
  • Tendai Saidi, from the Civil Society Agriculture Network, answered What role does this play in agriculture in Malawi, development programs, and scaling? Her experience includes bringing in local and national stakeholders and increasing calls for these groups to have a greater role in implementation. 
  • Dr. Amos Rutherford Azinu, with the Legacy Crop Improvement Center in Ghana, discussed What is the private sector’s role in scaling efforts and challenges? His perspective from the private sector brought a new view to the session and more funder-forward experience. 
  • Dr. Marc Schut, from GCIAR and Wageningen University, answered What is your organization’s new scaling initiative framework? How do the multiple scaling initiatives work in conjunction with each other? He was followed up with general reflections from Dr. Stefan Kachelriess-Matthess, GIZ.
